Окончил Горный институт в 1864г, горный инженер. Награжден орденами Святого Станислава III степени (1869), Святого Станислава II степени (1893), Святой Анны II степени 1897г. С 1864 г — смотритель Верхне-Туринского и Кушвинского заводов. С 1870 г. — управитель Нижне-Исетского завода. С 1875 г. — смотритель Березовских золотых промыслов, управляющий Сысертскими заводами. В 1880 г. командирован в Вятскую губернии на Омутнинские заводы. С 1887 г. — управитель Кыштымского горного округа. В период своего управления Павел Михайлович Карпинский внес неоценимый вклад в промышленное, торговое и социальное развитие Кыштымского горного округа. Имя его навсегда связано с производством первосортного железа, художественного чугунного литья, принесшим мировую славу России. Сын Сергей умер 26 августа 1908 г.
