Description
Deutsch: Ewige Flamme. Denkmal für die Opfer des Nazi-Völkermords in Zaitsevo. Bezirk Gatschina, Gebiet Leningrad. Russland. Eröffnet am 27. Januar 2024 zum 80. Jahrestag der vollständigen Aufhebung der Blockade Leningrads.
English: Eternal Flame. Memorial to the Victims of the Nazi Genocide in Zaitsevo. Gatchinsky District, Leningrad Oblast. Russia. Opened on January 27, 2024, on the 80th anniversary of the complete lifting of the Siege of Leningrad.
  • During World War II, the siege of Leningrad, undertaken by Axis powers and Finland, was a prolonged military blockade against the Soviet city (present-day Saint Petersburg). Lasting from September 8, 1941, to January 27, 1944, it became one of history's longest and most devastating sieges. Around 1.5 million people perished, with intentional destruction and systematic starvation leading some historians to classify it as genocide.
