Il comprenddonc lensemble des œuvres apparues au moment où les Romainsétaient les maîtres du monde. Quant à lart romain à lépoque de la fondation de la ville etlongtemps après, nous savons seulement quil se distingue à peinedu contexte italique et étrusque. Il na aucune originalité spéci-fique.
