Summary[edit]

Description

The Historical Clock Tower is located at the heart of Canakkale.

The five-storey Ottoman saat kulesi (clock tower) near the harbour was built in 1897. It was paid for by an Italian consul and Çanakkale merchant who left 100,000 gold francs in his will for this purpose.

There is a clock on each of the four sides of the tower, which was built from local Ayvalık stone. The public fountain beneath was built in 1889 by a wealthy Jewish resident of the town called Halyo. The Clock tower is bow one of the symbols of Canakkale [Adapted from anzachotel.com and Lonely Planet]
