Español: Durante la conquista del septentrión, los españoles encontraron una gran cantidad de lagunas en estos lugares, siendo las más importantes las de Mayrán, Viesca y Tlahualilo, de ahí que en un principio esta región fue conocida como "País de la Laguna".
