Summary[edit]

Description
English: 'Dead Wife' gatepost It is thought that the name 'Dead Wife's Grave' harks back to a wife or camp follower of Montrose's army who was slain here fleeing from the battle of Philiphaugh, near Selkirk, in 1645. There are no other remains, but the place name is commemorated on the southern gatepost in the wall dividing Dawyck and Manor.
