Description |
English: '1st Battle squadron in North Sea' Inscribed by the artist, as title, lower right. This is 1st Battle Squadron of R-class and 'Iron Duke'-class battleships in the North Sea in 1917. It is essentially a study of the distant appearance of these massive symbols of naval power on a well-rendered and moderately lively summer sea, which in no way affects their apparently monumental stability. The individual ships cannot be identified. |
