A steel cylinder passing through the top of the two sides of the frame is connected to a lever and cylindrical weights on one end and a heavy pulley on the other. A second steel cylinder about a foot below and parallel to the first has another heavy pulley with a chain that rolls around both pulleys. Another cylindrical weight is attached to that side of the column. A foot pedal near the base of the machine has a leather cushion to secure the foot. The user raises the lever, places his foot into the cushioned strap, releases the lever, and lowers his foot. Note: the description of this machine's action suggests that it is used atop parallel foot boards with a gap between them and with supporting rails on each side. If so, this part of the machine is missing.
