Summary[edit]

Description

"Your Plan and Mine", an October 1864 caricature published by Currier and Ives, a commentary on how the two 1864 presidential candidates would approach ending the Civil War.

In the left half, George B. McClellan offers an olive branch to Jefferson Davis, who menaces a black Union soldier with a knife. Davis says "I see the Olive Branch and take the Nigger, and am glad to hear that you are willing to be governed once more by your Southern masters." The black man says "Why, general! I am a Union soldier! I have shed my blood in defence of liberty and law, and will you give me back again to slavery?"

In the right half, it is Jefferson Davis who is humbly on the ground, while Abraham Lincoln uncompromisingly threatens him with a bayonet. The black soldier says "Ha, Ha, Massa Secesh, guess you won't fool time with this child any more!"
