Description
English:

The allegorical woman "Victory" dressed in long flowing robes of red and white lays across the outline of North America with a spear pointed towards Europe. There is a bald eagle on her shoulder and a winged figure with a torch hovering above her right. There are little flags representing each European country hovering over the land mass that is Europe. There is a military ship in the ocean between the two continents. The top of the painting has strokes of red, orange, and yellow. The areas where the two continents are are dark.

"Victory" painted by P. Marcius Simons in 1904 was dedicated to Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt. P. Marcius Simons described this painting as "the olive branch tendered to the world but enforced by the sword of justice and might beneath." Edith Roosevelt described the painting in a letter to her sister Emily Carow: "The color is quite beautiful and the picture will always be interesting historically." TR described Simons as "A great imaginative artist, a wonderful colorist, and a man with a vision more wonderful still." This painting is located in the Front Hall of the Theodore Roosevelt Home.
