er, but allowing for a fair average winter yield theprice of 20 cents niay not be too low. As to the cost of production, eggs w-ere produced atthe Utah Experiment Station, when food was cheaperthan it is now, however, for less than five cents adozen. The fowls consumed 60 cents worth of food dur-ing the year, and laid more than an average of 150 eggseach. This was under ideal conditions, jirobably, andit could hardly be expected with pre.sent market pricesfor food. It is difficult to get actual figures from poul-try men. Very few of tliem keep any records of eggyield or of food cost, but ^Mr. Joseph Schulte, of Marioncounty, has given me a record of egg yield and of pricesreceived, and I quote his statement to show wliat hasactually been done in this state in practical poultrykeeping. The statement includes the monthly eggrecord, and the price received each month for the eggsliirone.year. The number of hens he states was between275 and 300, which makes an average of over 150 eggseach;

In other words, as the prices advanced thereturns decreased. The three most profitable monthswere January. February, and March. It is possible bybreeding from early layers and liatching early in theseason to get an earlier egg yield in the fall mon
