sheld on topics connected with live stock, agri-culture, and allied industries. The Forestry Building stands near the Agri-cultural Building, and is the most unique of allthe Bxhibition structures. Its ground area is200 by 500 feet. On all four sides is a veranda,the roof of which is supported by a colonnade,each column of which consists of three tree-trunks, each 25 feet long. These trunks are intheir natural state, with the bark undisturbed.They were contributed by the different Statesand Territories of the Union, and by variousforeign countries, each furnishing specimens ofits most characteristic trees. The walls of thebuilding are covered with slabs of logs with thebark removed. The roof is thatched with bark.Within, the building is finished in a greatvariety of woods so treated as to show, to thebest advantage, their graining, their colors, theirsusceptibility to polish, etc. It will contain awonderful exhibition of forest products ingeneral, doubtless the most complete ever seen

THE COLUMBIAN EXHIBITION. ^ 225 in the world, including logs and sections oftrees, worked lumber in the form of beams,planks, shingles, etc., dye-woods and barks,mosses, gums, resins, vegetable ivory, rattan,willow-ware, and wooden-ware generally, etc.There will also be a large exhibit of saw-milland wood-working machinery, including fourcomplete saw-mills, which will be seen in anannex attached to the Forestry Building. Close by the Forestry Building is the DairyBuilding, which will contain not only a com-plete exhibit of dairy products, but also a dairyschool, in connection with which will be con-ducted a series of tests for determining the rela-tive merits of different breeds of dairy cattle asproducers of milk and butter. This structurestands near the lake shore and is 95 by 200 feetin area, and two stories high. On the first floor,besides office headquarters, there is a large roomdevoted to exhibits of butter, and further backan operating room, in which
