Such is the evidence for the identity of the Holy Sepulchreas the tomb of Jesus, from his resurrection down to the com-mencement of authentic history. It is unwritten tradition,and, at best, presumptive proof. Extending through a periodof three hundred years of wars, revolutions, and desolations, itis the most unreliable period of all the centuries subsequent tothe Christian era.
