RED BREASTED MERGANSER. 180 RIVER DUCKS. No. 170. BLACK DUCK. Genus: Anas. Species: A. obscura. Distribution: An abundant transient visitor, breeding sparingly. Date of Arrival: March and April Date of Departure: Latter part of August, through October, General Plumage: Upper parts dark brown, head darker, buff marked ; underparts brownish, buff marked, wing purple black marked.Bill greenish, feet red. Length about 22.00. Song and Other Notes: Loud Quack-Quack-Quack. Haunts: Marshes, ponds and often sea. RIVER DUCKS.

BLACK DUCK. S2 RIVER DUCKS. No. 171. BLUE WINGED TEAL. Species: A. discors. Distribution: A rare spring but common fall transient visitor. Bate of Arrival:Late April. Date of Departure: August, through September. General Plumage: Male, upper parts blackish, buff marked, wings marked withslaty blue, head black, white marked, throat and other headregions ashen; under parts cinnamon, black spotted. Female,and male in summer, upper parts less bully, head brownishand grayish, dark spotted; under parts paler. Bill black,feet dusky. Length about 16.00.
