DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANT. 158 OCEAN BIRDS. No. 158. DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANT. Order: Steganopocles. Genus: Phalacrocorax. Family: Phalacrocoracidae. Species: P. dilophus. Distribution: A common transient visitor along the coast. Date of Arrival: April and May, going north. Date of Departure: August through October, going south. General Plumage: In summer, upper parts brownish, marked with shiny black,tail black, rump, head and neck black, crests black bat oftenlacking; under parts shiny black. In winter crests lacking.Immature, upper parts brownish, upper breast and neckgrayish white, gular sack orange. Bill above blackish, belowyellow, feet black. Length about 30.00. Song and Other Notes: I am unable to find any description of their notes. Haunts: Outlying rocks and ocean. OCEAN BIRDS. 159

Distribution: A common winter visitor. Date of Arrival: )\liddle of November. Date of Departure:INliddle of April. General Plumage: Male, upper parts black, white marked, head and throatshiny black; under parts and spot at bills base white. Fe-male, upper parts ashen, head and throat cinnamon; underparts while, upper breast ashen, front of neck white. Billblack, yellow tip, feet orange. Length about 20.00. So^ig and Other Notes: Whistle of wings when flying. Haunts: Ocean, bays, tide water rivers. OCEAN BIRDS.
