Female, upperparts black, marked with buff, head and neck bu(f, stre deedwith blackish ; under parts, breast buff, black marked. he)\vbrownish lightly barred, large rounded culmen. General Plumage: Male, black, white cheek spot and white wing markings.Female, dark brown, paler below, white wing marking,whitish cheek spot. In winter and immature, similar whitehead marking lacking. ^Bill orange and vermilion, baseblack, feet bluish red. Length about 23.00. Song and Other Notes: Ker-ker. Haunts: Ocean and seas. OCEAN BIRDS. 169 No. 164. SURF SCOTER. Species: O. perspicillata. Distribution: A common winter visitor along the coast. Date of Arrival:October. Date of Departure: Latter part of April.
