No. 13. Fish Hawk. OSPREY.
Genus: Pandion. Species: P. haliastus carolinensis.
Distribution:
A common migrant, breeding along the Maine coast and
about the head waters of Narragansett Bay.
Date of Arrival: April first.
Date of Departure: Late October.
General Plumage:
Upper parts dark brown, head partially white; under parts
white, breast marked with brown. Bill black, feet bluish.
Length about 24.00.
Song and Other Notes:
Piercing and often musical cries, repeated when soaring as to
form a "so called song."
Haunts:
Inland bodies of water, but more commonly found near salt
water.
