SIXSIXSIX est un ensemble de 666 autoportraits sur lesquels on perçoit d'infimes variations de son visage. L'oeuvre ouvre magistralement l'exposition et met le regardeur dans une situation ambiguë. "African Spirits" est une oeuvre de 2008 qui rend hommage aux grandes figures noires qui ont marqué l'histoire ou qui ont été des artistes reconnus : Patrice Lumumba, Haïlé Sélassié, Martin Luther King, Kwame Nkrumah, Angela Davis, Malcom X, Seydou Keita. Chaque photographie est en réalité un autoportrait de Samuel Fosso qui se met en scène et qui retrouve les pratiques artistiques de métamorphose de Cindy Sherman dont on verra bientôt une rétrospective à la Fondation Vuitton à Paris. Photographie, vidéo, installation : pour la première fois, le musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac consacre dans ses murs une exposition d’envergure à l’image contemporaine sous toutes ses formes.
