Title
"Catharina von Österreich. Herzogin von Savoÿen"
Description
English: Portrait of Catalina Micaela of Spain (1567-1597), wife of Carlo Emanuele I, Duke of Savoy (1562-1630)
"This is an original 1721 black and white copper engraving of "Catharina von Österreich. Herzogin von Savoÿen." This is a portrait of Catherine Michelle of Spain, the youngest surviving daughter of Philip II of Spain and Elisabeth of Valois, and Duchess of Savoy as wife of Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy. The portrait is surrounded by a wonderful decorative motif mimicking a frame set against an etched background. The design features two cherubs flanking an urn that rests upon a stylized and grotesque face at the top of the print and a cascading grape vine design framing the remainder of the portrait, uniting at the bottom center of the print."
