Description
English: "Immigration East and West". The left panel ('Westward, the course of empire takes its way') depicts European immigrants bringing virtues such as 'art', 'industry', 'capital', and 'politics' to the United States, while the right panel ('Eastward, the march of national decay') depicts Chinese immigration as a giant menacing serpent, threatening the West coast with maladies such as 'small pox', 'immorality' and 'ruin to white labor.'
