Summary[edit]

Description
English: “This ridge protecting Guadalcanal [...] airport cost 600 Japanese their lives in attempts to dislodge U.S. Marine Raider Battalions entrenched there. With the exception of one infiltration, later wiped out, Marines supported by heavy artillery turned back thrust after thrust by the enemy.”

"Bloody ridge. This was taken by me personally on the fifteenth of September, 1942. The rear section of Bloody Ridge. This picture looking towards the airfield. Except for scattered men, the Japanese did not pass this point. They were stopped just to the rear of where this picture was take. The division CP was located on the ridge off to the right in the trees at the end of the road about 400 yards away. Fox holes on both sides of the road. The ridge drops off sharply on both sides. Held at the time of the battle by the raiders and the paramarines, the section was taken over by the Seventh Marines upon their arrival on the eighteenth of September."
