The preachers spiritual life ismore apt to widen and deepen whenhe is being persecuted for right-eousness sake, than when his salary has been doubled. Let patience have her per-fect work as much whenthe butter is strong or thebaby fretful, as when youare about to kill a lion ormove a mountain. Let the time come whenpeople will be no moreafraid of excitement inchurch than they are inpolitics, and revivals«vili be more frequent. Behave like a Christian because you areone, not because you want people to thinkyou are pious. Take your religion with you when youtravel, and dont leave it at the gate whenyou go home. It wont help the Lord any for you tobehave like a saint in church, and like aheathen in a street car. Be a light that burns and shines, andreveals good works; not a painted firebeside which one may freeze to death.
