Text Appearing Before Image:
revival is neededwhen it almost splitsthe church to hint atraising the pastors sal-ary. St. Pauls commissiondidnt read that hispreaching was to bedone where he could getwell paid for it. The follower of Christshould be as ready togo with him to thecross as to the mountof transfiguration. The preacher who istrying to make a repu-tation for the size ofhis head is not drivingthe devil back an inch The devil can sleepin church, when thepreaching is being doneby a man whose reli-gion is all in his head. Something is the mat-ter with the preaching, when the devil can sellliquor enough to ruin atown in sight of a•church steeple. In proportion as a preacher fishes forcompliments he loses the ability to fishfor men. An Angel could go to Cornelius, but itwas Peters work to tell him aboutredemption. Jesus preached as faithfully to those heknew would kill him as he did to thosewho loved him. If the preacher is never convicted by hisown preaching, how does he know that beis preaching the gospel?
