Prior to the signing of thearmistice, this Section had charge of sixteen messengers, oneskilled laborer, and one assistant. Due to the signing of thearmistice, and the cessation of purchases and reduction ofpersonnel of the Division, the duties of this Section had de-creased to such an extent that the Section was abolished andthe work taken over by the office of the Chief of the Office Ser-vice Branch, as of date December 31, 1918. Drafting Section The Drafting Section of this Branch, although not officiallydesignated as a section, had been functioning for a considerableperiod of time prior to its official organization. The duties of 108 As You Were this section are to make drawings for records and contractpurposes, and other duties for which their services may berequired; also the filing and recording of all blue prints anddrawings which have been made during the life of this Division.

BRANCH NUMBER EIGHT Branch No. 8, or as it was known, Statistical Branch, ofthe Hardware and Metals Division (later General SuppliesDivision), had its inception as the Statistical Section of theHardware and Metals Branch of the Supply and EquipmentDivision, under date of May 11,1918. At that time the greaterpart of the statistical records of the Hardware and MetalsBranch and all special reports were being rendered by theStatistical Branch of the Supply and Equipment Division. Under date of June 1, 1918, the Hardware and MetalsBranch was made a Division. All statistical work was trans-ferred from the Statistical Branch of the Supply and Equip-ment Division to the Statistical Section of the AdministrativeBranch of the Hardware and Metals Division, as of date ofJune 4th.
