Final round[edit]

HEY! Is there anyone there? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ğaaw (talk • contribs) 2011-05-06T16:25:29 (UTC)

Yep. the final round is expected to begin on the 15th of May. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 00:36, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can I vote for more than one? Or only one? Thanks, Mattisse (talk) 18:36, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In the final round only one. ---donald- (talk) 19:19, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
When does the voting start? (It says around May 15 but that the voting hasn't started yet.) Mattisse (talk) 21:54, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Users voting more than once[edit]

Some user named DataBOTTVision has voted several times on this POTY. And I don't think he's a bot. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 02:07, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Daniel Cavallari voted twice. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 02:11, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
晒太阳的冰 voted twice. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 08:00, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Dashing_jaytee voted several times – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 09:12, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
well, in the case of the dashing jaytee, it appears that he is not qualified to vote anyway; but can we not put a lockout in place, to prevent anyone from voting more than once? (with an appropriate "undo" function, of course, for those who change their minds). do we at least have an automated way of cross-checking for multiple voters? or is this still a "wetware-dependent" function :P Lx 121 (talk) 16:02, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not part of any committee, but I'm just assuming it's all manual checking; I happened to recognize the names popping up, so I thought I'd mention them to at least help out a little. I'm sure there are others. I wasn't sure of any preferable means of contacting these users, or if they even should be. (Me personally, I would just tally their first vote—if they're qualified— and disregard the rest.) – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 16:09, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I voted multiple times, sorry. I don't think that I'm a bot, either. Ajraddatz (talk) 22:20, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have now so often seen that several users vote more than once. What will be with this votes? Which will count? ---donald- (talk) 10:04, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please see #What_happens_if_I_vote_for_more_than_one_picture.3F --Saibo (Δ) 13:52, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Compliments[edit]

This is truly an impressive array. I middle clicked the lot, intending to choose one by process of elimination, but only eliminated three or four that way. They are amazing images.--Chaser (talk) 03:56, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. I can't feel comfortable voting for just one. Nice work to all and thank you for the great images. Cptnono (talk) 02:37, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

German header not working[edit]

Hi, the german header (2010POTY/Finalistsheader) isn't working correctly. It displays only things like that: {{{vote}}}. Can somebody fix it? I don't know how. ---donald- (talk) 08:07, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I relied heavily on Google translator, but I gave it a stab. If you'd like to check the language for me, that would be great. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 09:38, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Finish[edit]

Picture of the Year when will the second round?--Ğaaw (talk) 09:58, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

i think the above user was asking what the closing date of R2 voting is; i'd like to second the question? Lx 121 (talk) 15:52, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
From the edit history of the Finalists page, it looks like it wasn't even supposed to start. I also thought there was supposed to be some sort of notification, but people just started voting... : ) – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 16:11, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
well i've gotten page headers "advertising" r2 voting (but only on commons), but i still can't find out when it ends... xD Lx 121 (talk) 16:38, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please check the "Dates" in this : Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2010/Preparation. It reads :
  • Round 1 "April 29 00:00(UTC) to May 4 23:59(UTC)"
  • Final "May 19 00:00(UTC) to May 29 23:59(UTC)"
This should be quickly added in the right place(s) over there !!
--Warp3 (talk) 03:51, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!--Ğaaw (talk) 10:58, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do not think voting system is working![edit]

I tried two times to vote for the image of volcano. I clicked the button underneath the image, but my vote was not added. Also the count for a few images I was watching has not changed for a few hours. Something is wrong?--Mbz1 (talk) 21:20, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I'm not able to do any (test) voting either. But I've already voted, so maybe there's a lockout in place after you've voted once already. I can't be sure. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 04:59, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have the same problem as Mbz1. When I push the vote-button I get to the list of supporters but I am not added there. --Wladyslaw (talk) 06:34, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
All pages are write protected. Comment: Voting closed: Well, not closed, but not open yet. The results of last round are not checked yet and I have no clue who open that without notice anybody. Why? ---donald- (talk) 07:28, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I think there's some sort of communication problem here. Anyway, voting has not begun. I didn't even notice the change. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 08:26, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I too have this problem! --T137(varie ed eventuali) 11:54, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Clear message[edit]

Can't you please include a well-visible and clear message, when the voting will begin? At one place we have a message saying that it will happen around 15 May. At another place we see that voting hasn't begun. But the "Vote" buttons are active and in a way encourage "click me". I see I'm not the only one who's confused and underinformed.

The voting has not begun yet, as soon as it begin, you will notice it in the header of Commons:Picture of the Year/2010/Finalists/Medium.   ■ MMXX  talk  12:19, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Instead of shouting:
  • please disable "vote" buttons
  • please provide the estimated kickoff date
I disabled the voting buttons. Badzil (talk) 20:47, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can't vote[edit]

I didn't see the voting button and I can't edit the voting list. What's wrong with me?? --Hao Xi (talk) 19:06, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing wrong with you. The POTY has apparently become a ghost town and is effectively ... closed for the season, I guess. Still, the winner is pretty apparent... – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 19:18, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Be careful, or the winner will be the spinning brain, which pretty much makes anyone fall asleep. Lampman (talk) 00:04, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'll tell you one thing, it is a photo finish for last place! Who will it be?! I'm dying to know. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 01:14, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"automatic voting" (just push the button) does not work![edit]

there is following instrutions: 1. check if you are eligible (Prüfe, ob du wahlberechtigt bist.) 2. Look at the pics and choose your favorite (Schau dir die Bilder an und wähle deinen Favoriten.) 3. click on the "button area" at the bottom of your favorite (Klicke auf die Schaltfläche unter deinem Favoriten.) ... and then you come to the page that you can see who voted for that pic ...

so far, so OK ... and then??????? where is my vote??? nowhere!!! where is the instructions how to put your (own) name on the list for voting for it??? --ProloSozz (talk) 00:29, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The same thing with me. My vote doesn't appear. --Lošmi (talk) 11:32, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for reporting!
I have just tested it: Works for me (Firefox 3.6, Linux) - JavaScript enabled and when I have JavaScript disabled (then manual procedures are displayed). What is your browser config? What happens exactly when you click the button and what exactly is written on the button? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 15:31, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have exactly the same problem. The button does not add my vote, it gives no error message either, it just goes to the page that shows me the list of other voters. My browser is IE 7 on Win XP, with JavaScript, Cookies etc. enabled. --Neitram (talk) 08:48, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Could it be a mere and usual "edit conflict" ? It happened to me yesterday, and my second try was successfull. --Wikinade (talk) 12:13, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Neitram is it a yellow button? Then it is the manual version (see the intro the vote page). If it is the automatic (javascript version) then it is not yellow (and is localized for some languages).
I have tested it with IE8 on WinXP. I get only the yellow buttons since there is a script error which apparently only happens on IE. Only few people use IE so probably this wasn't noticed as of now. Get Firefox! :-)
You have do follow the manual steps as described on the page with the votes.
Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 16:26, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is a yellow button, and I do have Firefox at home, but not at work. Please can the guys in charge either fix the script issue or at least display a prominent(!) warning that if you see yellow buttons, you have to follow a different procedure than the instruction "Click the button for your favorite image and you'll be done!" I'm sure there are tons of other IE users, so this issue is major. --Neitram (talk) 15:25, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A warning on top: "get a real browser - Internet Explorer is broken?" ;-)
I have added a section to Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2010/Eligibility/de and Template:2010POTY/Finalistsheader/de - although I have not much joy in supporting IE. ;-) Is it fine now? Feel free to add it to English version, too.
Isn't it clear that if you come to the voting page and there is a step-by-step "how to vote" listing and your vote is not already there that you need to use this procedure? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 21:01, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

r2 dates[edit]

hello;

glad to see that the r2 voting has (hopefully) been all sorted out & resumed!

please add info about voting dates to the poty 2011 header (R2 end date/deadline would be the priority)

thanks for all the work, & glad everything is back ontrack

Lx 121 (talk) 17:33, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the end date from Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2010/Preparation#Dates to
Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 18:49, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
thumbs up Lx 121 (talk) 05:34, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You may only vote once in this round.[edit]

You may only vote once in this round. is wrong explanation, if you ask me. The point is that you may vote for only one image! That is the most important. I propose to change it into something more understandable for non native English speakers... --WhiteWriter speaks 22:36, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New image added in the middle of voting?[edit]

What is this? Why is a new image being added in the middle of voting? – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 23:55, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See history of Commons:Picture of the Year/2010/Finalists/Large. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 07:26, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for explaining. What a sad case of copyvio. Beria should have filled out an edit summary on the /Medium page edit as well, would've saved some time regarding the matter. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 08:40, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What happens if I vote for more than one picture?[edit]

Are my votes disqualified? Is it ok to remove my vote from a picture? EvilHom3r (talk) 05:05, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know the answer to the first question. (I doubt you're disqualified; most likely, if you have been approved to vote on the images, your extraneous votes are removed randomly until one is left.) It's definitely best to take care of this yourself. Go into the votes list of any of the images you voted on where you want to remove your name, scroll down to the voters list, edit it and simply remove the line with your name in it. That's the easiest way. Make sure you don't affect any of the other votes. : ) – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 06:07, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
See a discussion on this at Commons_talk:Picture_of_the_Year/2010/Preparation#Not_single_votes. Yes, please remove all votes except one, if you voted for more than one picture. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 07:24, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
i think a signed strikethrough ( < s > < / s > ) might be a better idea than erasing cancelled votes. MUCH easier to keep track of, in reviewing/processing the votes Lx 121 (talk) 20:31, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Except maybe if it comes to automatic counting. Yes, striking is probably better. Can re erased easily later if needed. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 21:03, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

the "disqualified" image[edit]

the david mauro painting appears to be resolved as a "keep", with the licensing question addressed.

consensus has been that way for at least several days.

so what about returning it to poty r2?

Lx 121 (talk) 23:20, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe Dcoetzee can withdraw his deletion nomination or an admin can be asked to close the discussion? Anyway, if the file is definitely a keep, then the voters at Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2010/Final/File:Fruitbowlwithmelons.jpg who were notified of the disqualification (not all of them were, by a quick check) should be re-notified. If they haven't voted since, then that just makes it easier. As for dealing with the harm done, I'm not sure if the harm was limited to just this image. This was quite a year for POTY. :) – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 23:53, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
not sure about formally "withdrawing" the nom, but Dcoetzee has stated, in the discussion there, that their concerns over the licensing have been resolved (Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Fruitbowlwithmelons.jpg near bottom). Lx 121 (talk) 00:21, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Automatic voting not working in Chrome[edit]

I voted using the automatic button on the 3rd, and my name was not added to the vote list. I tried again today and it did not work, yet again. So I decided to switch from Chrome to Firefox and I was successful. That might mean that many people are missing out on their vote... although it's a little late to fix now. Ericleb01 (talk) 22:33, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't destroy the presentation![edit]

As the voting is over, there is no reason to stop presenting the finalists. So deleting all the finalists from the presentation page can only be treated as either censorship - or a bad joke. But for sure that all the voting instructions stuff does not have to be seen anymore. --ProloSozz (talk) 08:53, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
