  •  Question Should the scope for the image be changed to "Traditional Hindu Wedding ceremonies in India"? Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 14:51, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose I think the scope is too broad. Although I do not have a detailed knowledge of Indian weddings, it is my feeling that there are quite some religious variations and perhaps also regional(?), which makes it difficult to state that this particular image is representative of wedding ceremonies. The images is BTW no longer used in en:India, as it has been replaced after two days by another wedding photo (which is not properly licensed and only hosted on en BTW). --Slaunger (talk) 22:12, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Vote changed following scope change. --Slaunger (talk) 19:15, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just learned that what is going on at the picture is discribed in the Wikipedia article. It calls Var Mala. I also found there is a category for Hindu weddings. There are few other images in the category, but I guess I could  Support this one now because it is described in the article. I'm going to add the image to the article w:Hindu wedding. Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 22:38, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Thank you Mila, for enlightening me! Now I understand much better. After reading the Hindu wedding page I would actually propose a further specification of the scope to "Var Mala" if this is a generally accepted term for this part of the wedding ceremonies. I think the nominated image is the best illustration we have of that scope. If "Var Mala" is an accepted term, I also think it would be helpful if this term was specifically added to the image page. --Slaunger (talk) 20:11, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment I'm currently bothered by the "in India" precision, which I don't think is useful (but maybe I'm wrong). I be fine with Hindu wedding as a scope (although I haven't reviewed the possible competitors), I think "Var Mala" might be too narrow. --Eusebius (talk) 21:22, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    •  Comment I agree that the "in India" part probably should go. Concerning "Var Mala": Now that I have read about it, the hindu wedding ceremony really has a lot of built-in sub-ceremonies, divided in ceremonies before, under and after the wedding. Even under the wedding there are quite a few steps, of which the depicted one is the "Var Mala". That's why I believe a subscope may be warranted. Considering how many hindu weddings there are annually world-wide, I think it is relevant to go into fairly deep details.--Slaunger (talk) 21:39, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
