Comment The links in the scope are poor. The emphasis of the scope should be on en:Jean-Baptiste Despax (fr:Jean-Baptiste Despax). Given that this article is empty, may I suggest that the scope be written in both English and French with links to fr:Jean-Baptiste Despax. The debate can then centre on whether or not Despax was an artist of sufficient note to meet the criteria for a VI.Martinvl (talk) 06:28, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Oppose This image fails the scope for the interior of the "Chapelle des Carmélites" - it depicts a painting on the wall of the chapel, not the chapel itself. It also fails the level of notability for pieces of art. The guidance for Valued image scope for works of art states that "A scope is justified for instance if the work is the most significant work (or one of the most significant works) of an artist having an article on its own on any Wikipedia, or if it is a seminal work in some way." I checked on Despax, but found very little on the internet about him - Wikipedia has an article in French, but not in any other language so the artist himself only just makes the grade. This site describes Jean-Baptiste Despax as a "minor local history painter".
Is this a "seminal work" of his? Other than in Wikipedia, I found very little reference to this work when I Googled it (I tried both English and French). As such, all that I can say is that this picture is sufficiently unknown that it cannot be considered a seminal work of a notable artist, so I must oppose this nomination, otherwise Commons will be flooded with images by relatively unknown artists and will lose its function as being a filter.
