Scope Nominated as the most valued image on Commons within the scope:
Sympetrum sanguineum (Ruddy darter), male – frontal view
Used in Global usage
Reason There are numerous Commons images of the highly photogenic ruddy darter dragonfly, including several from the frontal perspective. Many have QI and FP ratings (none with VI). This one, as a focus-stack of 26 images of a living insect, shows exceptional wing detail and overall sharpness not seen in the others at this viewpoint. It merits consideration as a Valued Image of the species. -- GRDN711 (talk)

  •  OpposeI don't nominate front-on insect pictures for VI. They have less EV. I think side-on and dorsal are quite enough. There are no VIs because it is impossible for anyone to go through every image when there are 400+ to choose from. With so many FPs, who needs a VI? •  Support As that is the VI scope guideline interpretation by Archaeodontosaurus. It seems inconsistent with the discussion we had some time back when my 'showing front feathers' and 'showing back feathers' nominations were challenged with the argument that we should generally only have one scope per species. •  Comment Charles - your decision not to nominate front-on insect images is your personal choice. As a view, as long as the image shows the species well, head-on is no different than the underside, ventral or dorsal views you tend to favor.
    • I nominated this image by User:Ermell for VI as being exceptionally well done using a novel focus-stacking technique that allows for sharp detail and depth of field in the head, gossamer wings, legs, thorax and abdomen. All of this, where the insect that may be moving slightly, or being blown gently in the wind.
    • Yes, I did note that this dragonfly was photogenic but images at this frontal viewpoint are less than ten and easy to distinguish.
    • Each of the ratings systems, QI FP VI, has their own unique purpose and criteria. Success in one rating does not preclude further image success in another. If an image meets the criteria by consensus of the reviewers, there is no reason that it cannot have all three QI VI FP ratings, as do several of your own images. --GRDN711 (talk) 00:58, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
