Scope Nominated as the most valued image on Commons within the scope:
Platalea ajaja (Roseate spoonbill) in flight – adult, underside view
Used in Global usage
Reason The platalea ajaja is a popular bird and there are many in-flight choices. This image distinguishes by showing an unobstructed view of the entire bird framed against a uniform, blue-sky background. The bird has the distinctive pink wing and tail feathers of an adult of the species. The in-flight form of the species is clearly shown from below with legs aligned aerodynamically straight behind. -- GRDN711 (talk)

Uploaded a new version where all post-processing was re-set to the original imported into Lightroom. Applied a lens correction (standard for all my images and has little effect on color). Cropped tighter to the bird and applied a light overall sharpening. The result is a little less saturated than the previous version but not much.
The Sian Ka'an Biosphere, just off the Gulf, is a good source of shrimp that is a significant portion of this spoonbill's diet and the source of carotenoid colorant that creates the pink color. Also, the angle of the sun behind the bird may be contributing to the pink perception with the wings partially in the shade. The area behind the bird’s head is a clean white. There are a limited number of colors in this image but the histogram is normal and the gamma straight at 45 degrees. I did have a skylight UV filter on the lens but not a polarizer. I am reasonably sure this is, or is close to, the actual coloration of this roseate spoonbill. --GRDN711 (talk) 01:39, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
