- Oppose There's a lot to like about the colours and lighting. The crop is a bit random - the left quarter adding nothing to the picture. I wonder if a vertical crop with more foreground would be better. Both the viewpoint (standing, eye-level) and the unfortunate 21st-century accessories make this too much like a tourist snap and not an outstanding artistic photograph. I know "Would you mind letting me hold your laptop bag and mobile phone while I take your picture?" probably wouldn't be an easy request. Colin (talk) 11:58, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- My Khmer isn't good enough I'm afraid! The 21st century objects seem anachronistic, but they are part of the landscape today. Many monks in Thailand have mobile phones and things like that for example. I do have other shots of monks without the accessories, but they are not entirely similar images. - As an addendum, I saw these guys walking around the ruin from a distance, and ran about 50 meters to get the photo as they were about to walk down the stairs. I waved and beckoned to get their attention and thus this photo. I think that even if I had managed to get them to remove the gear, then the facial expressions, and poses, and positions would change, and the photo might have suffered in other ways. - I appreciate my vote is in the minority and for some people the accessories add interest. I understand that there are recording-how-it-is aspects to the image that are particularly relevant to Commons vs some coffee-table book. But still, we require wow for FP vs QI and I'm afraid this stops me going wow. It reminds me of a pic in my wedding album: there's the entrance to an old sandstone church, a very smart man in a kilt, a beautiful bride in her wedding dress, and on the ground in full view... a Marks And Spencer shopping bag containing a present. - Support Colin, this is a 21st century photograph, and they are 21st century monks. You can use a camera, and he can use a mobile phone. That's fair! I like the laptop bag and the mobile phone, because "c'est la vie".--Paris 16 (talk) 15:29, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

- Support My only thing is it doesn't seem quite level. Difficult to tell with an old structure like this though (for me). – Kerαunoςcopia◁galaxies 20:42, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
