This is a very good subject image. I have done a lot of work with the teeth of Microtus, and due to the undulations on the cutting surface, flat focus imaging of the entire tooth is pracically impossible.

the anterior loop seen at the left side of the tooth is the most distinguishing feature to identify this tooth, other species have different patterns.

 Comment Maybe you won't know but the unique way of identifying a Microtus fossil species is by the top shape of the M/1 tooth. It's to say the depth of the teeth it's not important in this image, but the top shape must be perfectly focused. -Theklan (talk) 15:36, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
