I thought the evening lighting and the angle of the head made it interesting. More interesting than the classical simple profile shot normally seen as in this picture of the only non-white swan featured. I agree the lighting is nice. Also, in regards to the angle, I actually prefer the profile shot you linked to. That said, looking at the uncropped one, having the reflection of the swans head on the water adds quite a lot to the image IMO. Not sure if you or others would agree though.
