Dear Community! I'd like to nominate Esby as a sysop. He is one of the firmest users in french-releated issues and he is often on IRC. He is really verry friendly and he is yet a trusted user.
Because of his great knowledge he is always attempt to help users on IRC, but often this is disturbed because he is unable to see deleted contents. I needed a long time till he accepted his nomination on IRC, but now he did (he will confirm this here in a few seconds I suppose) and I am really shure he'd be the best addition for our sysop team we can wish us. He has got my complete trust, that he will not abuse his tools. abf /talk to me/ 13:26, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Oppose sorry but I see the lack of showing copyvio tagging, and doing deletion requests. --Kanonkas(talk) 14:32, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • I know, but he has experience in other sysop-relevant-issues, e.G. Copyright issues and Flickr-reviewing. abf /talk to me/ 14:39, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Actually I'd be happy if there was a status that would allow to check releavant information about deleted files without having to be an admin. I mean, what can you answer when someone goes in channel and asks why his 'uploaded file' got deleted? Which are most of the time copyright based / missing desc / lacking source and author issues. I feel there is a lack in Commons about it for now. There should be a way to allow some non admin users to check image description and licence information of deleted files and maybe to be able to watch the image thumbnail at the lowest resolution. I feel this would help in solving this situation. Maybe this should go with the trusted users status?
      • About my lack of deleted edits, I know that part, my only interest in getting the admin status is to be able to see the deleted descriptions. I don't really have the time to perform recent changes monitoring, so don't expect my 'deletion counter' to magically grow up. Right now, My time is split between my work as a database admin (more or less), the photographs I take, various software related coding and other time consuming activities... I feel that doing recent changes would only cause this time to miss somewhere. Esby (talk) 15:09, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Support Esby has demonstrated more than sufficient commitment to the project and I appreciate his honesty when he says he may not increase his involvement in patrolling recent changes. The beauty of this project is that we each get to contribute to the area that interests us and/or what we do best. Some admins enjoy focusing on category maintenance, others on creating useful scripts and bots, patrolling recent changes for obvious copyvios, or tackling the more difficult deletion requests. I trust Esby's judgment to know what he does best and be helpful in the area he chooses to focus on, not to mention to use the tools responsibly. Goodluck Esby!
