This category is used completely wrong.

This category is intended for all "cities and villages" (as its name says), NOT merely municipalities, hence - the composed name "cities and villages". For municipalities, the category Category:Municipalities in Nord in the category tree of category:Cities and villages in Nord should be used. Most municipalities can be in both categories, but "Cities and villages in Nord" was explicitly created years ago to also contain villages that aren't municipalities. --LimoWreck (talk) 20:15, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you that the name "cities and villages" is not the best one. However, there was, up to now, a consensus among contibutors to use these categories for municipalities only, as explained in the heading of each of them. I understand your concern about various subdivisions of French communes, as districts, old communes or hamlets, which are not accurately categorized; so, it's the reason why I created a new set of categories for localities within municipalities, as Localities of cities and villages in Nord. Another way would be renaming all French cities and villages categories the way you suggest, but it should be discussed globally, and not only for this specific department. Personnally, I am not in favor of having simultaneously both cities and villages and municipalities (or communes) category sets, because of potential trouble in categorization of subdivisions of cities and villages.
