Viktor Emanuel, dem es gelungen war einen Nationalstaat zu schaffen, erfreute sich großer Beliebtheit in der italienischen Bevölkerung, die ihm den Beinamen „Padre della Patria“ (Vater des Vaterlandes) gaben.
English: Victor Emmanuel II of the House of Savoy (born 14 March 1820 in Turin - died 9 January 1878 in Rome) was Duke of Savoy, then last king of Sardinia (1849-1861), and eventually become the first king of newly-unified Kingdom of Italy (1861-1878). The Italians gave him the epithet Father of the Homeland (Italian: Padre della Patria).
