Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

[edit]Do not add bogus licenses to files. If an image is obviously so old that copyright must have expired, it's PD, not CC! Jcb (talk) 15:52, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
- Jcb - how is it bogus if the source of the image (which itself obviously is not old enough to automatically be PD) puts a CC license on the image which is ignored in wikiCommons? You or wiki or whatever may dispute if a digital reproduction of a manuscript page constitutes a new work with new rights, but I would think that if the author of said reproduction uses CC licences, it behooves wikicommons to respect them. In short, where is the problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wimpfel (talk • contribs) 15:37, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
- We follow Bridgeman v. Corel, we do not agree that a 2D reproduction of a 2D work would somehow constitute a new copyright situation. Jcb (talk) 16:28, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
