Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open!
[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.
Dear Ppiotrus,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.
Thanks,
-- Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 09:44, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
Academy Awards - Best Foreign Language Film Files
[edit]Hello, Ppiotrus!
I've just run into two files created by you ([1] and [2]). They are great, but unfortunately there are some problems with them:
- First File: The numbers of Italian, French and Japanese nominees and submissions:
- Between 1956 and 2017 (except 1973), Italy submitted 61 films (not *64: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Italian_submissions_for_the_Academy_Award_for_Best_Foreign_Language_Film), and had 28 nominees (not *31. Between 1947 and 1955, the Academy presented Special/Honorary Awards to the best foreign language films released in the United States —Italy won 2 Special Awards in 1947 and 1949, and 1 Honorary Award in 1950, shared with France—, but those awards were not competitive, as there were no nominees but simply a winner every year that was voted on by the Board of Governors of the Academy).
- Between 1956 and 2017, France submitted 62 films (not *64: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_French_submissions_for_the_Academy_Award_for_Best_Foreign_Language_Film), and had 37 nominees (not *39. Between 1947 and 1955, the Academy presented Special/Honorary Awards to the best foreign language films released in the United States —France won 1 Special Award in 1948, and 2 Honorary Awards in 1950, shared with Italy, and 1952—, but those awards were not competitive, as there were no nominees but simply a winner every year that was voted on by the Board of Governors of the Academy).
- Between 1956 and 2017 (except 1976), Japan submitted 61 films (not *64: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Japanese_submissions_for_the_Academy_Award_for_Best_Foreign_Language_Film), and had 12 nominees (not *15. Between 1947 and 1955, the Academy presented Special/Honorary Awards to the best foreign language films released in the United States —Japan won 3 Honorary Awards in 1951, 1954 and 1955—, but those awards were not competitive, as there were no nominees but simply a winner every year that was voted on by the Board of Governors of the Academy).
- Taiwan flag: Why the w:Chinese Taipei Olympic flag instead of the official w:Flag of the Republic of China?
- Second File: Jordan appears twice (before and after Nicaragua; BTW, the name of the country is Nicaragua, not *Nicaraua).
That is all. Happy Easter. Best wishes! Alpinu (talk) 07:21, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
