Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:56, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Please give images better names
[edit]
- Reventtalk 21:19, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, I was going off of the names of a number of other images in this category (like this one), thinking that was a convention of sorts. If that's not the case, I will think of other names for future uploads like these. Starrfruit (talk) 22:25, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
NYS Senate map
[edit]Hey I was just wondering what program you used to create your NYS Senate district map? It looks great--Ministre d'État (talk) 01:23, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks! I export SVGs of the districts, counties, and waters from shapefiles in QGIS, then edit those in Inkscape. Starrfruit (talk) 17:21, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Florida State House Map
[edit]Can you change it into a SVG format? I'm a contributor for a program called YAPms and we've been trying to add state house districts for all states, however this is the only Florida state house map I could find, however it's in PNG format and we use SVG. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Charlierouth04 (talk • contribs) 02:53, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
