Pay attention to copyright
File:54 Conestoga Custom.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: The image is unquestionably a photo taken of a computer screen; a partial URL is visible indicating that the image was taken from Facebook.

Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Wow this has been an experience.

[edit]

I have been a member for less than 48 hours and because one person assumed my own pictures were a copyright violation I can no longer upload my own work. I could not figure out how to negotiate through the process and keep hitting dead ends. The majority of the pictures this user flagged were all obviously taken from the same location on the same day. That location was my driveway. The fact that one user can have so much control over another is ridiculous to me. How one user can accuse another of copyright violation with out contacting the user he is accusing and get away with it with no repercussion is just wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NickWilson1964 (talk • contribs) 20:24, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You need to make your case at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by User:NickWilson1964. If you uploaded photos to copyrighted websites, then those photos are restricted by copyright even if you took them, and cannot be used here until you clear up the problems. You cannot freely license photos published under a restrictive copyright elsewhere. Also, you were informed right here on this page. Cullen328 (talk) 21:37, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nick, I'm sorry for all the trouble you've experienced. As you know, we take copyright very seriously, so when we see an image which has previously appeared on another website, we require uploaders to prove that they are the same person who uploaded it to the other website. Otherwise, someone could just create an account here pretending to be you and steal your images from the other website. The solution is simple: Go to http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/media/1954-conestoga.617/ and add a caption saying "My Wikimedia Commons account is NickWilson1964." It can be temporarily, i.e. we just need to verify it once and you can then remove it if you prefer. Best regards, King of ♥ 05:00, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And while you're at it Nick, you might also want to try uploading those original photos using either our Upload Wizard or our old upload form. We just really have so much copyright violations coming from the tool you used that the admins had to create a filter for it. Apologies for the inconvenience. pandakekok9 05:19, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I put the comment on my personal post page at Station Wagon Forums. I hope this clears things up. NickWilson1964 — Preceding unsigned comment added by NickWilson1964 (talk • contribs) 05:19, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I had to register an account to see profile pages in that forum, but I can confirm that he verified his identity at his forum account. Though KOH might want to confirm for himself as well, if he wants to. pandakekok9 05:26, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
pandakekok9 I will try your suggestions I am not computer savvy to say the least. I still run my 20 year old business using paper and pen. NickWilson1964 (talk) 05:26, 29 August 2021 (UTC)NickWilson1964[reply]
I have taken a screenshot of the webpage and archived it, with a link on your userpage which can be viewed by COM:VRT agents (i.e. volunteers who help with verifying copyright permissions). I have also restored the three deleted images. Your identity verification is complete. Feel free to remove the comment from your forum profile now. -- King of ♥ 06:12, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for helping me through this process. NickWilson1964 (talk) 06:22, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if you want to re-upload the original images so that they're not cell phone photos of your computer monitor, just navigate to any image such as File:1990 Red C4 Corvette Front.jpg, scroll to "File history" section near the bottom, and click "Upload a new version of this file". -- King of ♥ 06:31, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
