File:Hatfield-house-south-wing-25april09.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Removal of uploader credit

[edit]

Hello, you are being contacted as a user who has previously [or currently] included "* Uploaded by Example" in your file uploads. A bot task has been approved to remove this specific phrase from files because it can be misleading when attempting to attribute the file creator. As an alternative, RileyBot is willing to tag your uploads with a user category instead. Please respond stating if you opt-in and if you have any specific requests (addition of user category, etc); if there is no response within two weeks, consent will be implied. Please note, this message has been left by an automated bot, however, a user will be tracking your response. RileyBot (talk) 01:13, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your VFC installation method is deprecated

[edit]

Hello Samuel Wiki, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks! --VFC devs (q) 16:23, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

it would not have taken much to have simply

left a message? I would have changed the on the spot, being an admin and all - https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:David_Malcolm_Justice_Centre_2016.jpg&diff=prev&oldid=335284294 please feel free to make other suggestions directly - cheers JarrahTree (talk) 14:11, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey JarrahTree, sorry if that bugged you. I'm just following the standard procedure for renaming a file. It seems more straightforward to me as well but I'll try to remember your preference in the future. - Samuel Wiki (talk) 14:36, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
didnt bug me - the point is standard procedure is one thing, to specifically have problems with naming or anything technical of something that was uploaded by a known user... it would be very different if it was a either a low edit or irregular edit user - then the procedure is worth the effort JarrahTree (talk) 00:21, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Important message for file movers

[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question to the jpg. of Yasha Young

[edit]

Hello Samuel, Yasha Young asked me if I could help her to remove her portrait foto - which you made in Perth? -, because she does not like it as she was ill that day.

Do you have the rights to do so? if yes you would be quite happy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bullitt1964 (talk • contribs) 21:28, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Instagram Filters 2011.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

keep up the good work!

[edit]

btw on wp en some smart cookie has made a spam draft about Built, I am sure I have memories that they have had a colourful history, you up with that at all (noticing you edit corporate things a lot) ? no problems if it comes up as no JarrahTree (talk) 04:40, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JarrahTree All I know is that they do construction so can't help you there. Samuel Wiki (talk) 05:20, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply - in the last ten years so many of the construction businesses have gone under I had not kept a tab on the disappearing, or nuances of their corporate collective fate. JarrahTree (talk) 05:30, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
