Hi, I splitted your edit to File:CARRIERE Jean Claude-24x30-2006b.jpg. Consensus in previous discussions was that the Harcourt mark was to be considered as an art signature, which should stay available. Derivatives wihout the signature are welcome but should not overwrite the other file. Cheers, Jean-Fred (talk) 11:27, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- That's fine by me @Jean-Frédéric: , but why is there a "Watermark" tag on this image telling people that it's against policy to use an image with a watermark and asking users to upload an unmarked file under the same name? I want to be able to use the image without fear of having it challenged. Thanks for your advice. Jburlinson (talk) 18:42, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- This should not have been tagged with {{Watermark}} in my opinion, but it appears another user felt differently − that the signature was to be considered as a watermark and as such added the tag. This happened several times in the past with Harcourt pictures. The solution of having both usually makes everyone happy :)
- Note that in the general case, Watermarked images are against policy in the sense that we would prefer an unmarked version and we welcome anybody skilled to unmark it. But we would generally not delete a picture just because it is watermarked.
- In our case, both versions are perfectly acceptable on Commons − we will not delete either one, if that’s what you fear.
- As for using the image: Feel free to use whichever version suits you best. The point of having both versions − with & without signature − is also to let each person make that call.
- If you mean using it on a Wikimedia project such as a Wikipedia article, well I do not know the policies/feelings of your community on this regard. A quick look at the file usage of both categories show that more or less all pictures are used somewhere on Wikimedia projects, which might indicate that some communities prefer one or the other.
- I hope I answered your question!
- Jean-Fred (talk) 19:10, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, absolutely -- great answer to my question. Thanks for taking the time. Jburlinson (talk) 19:38, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Dear colleague J. Burlinson, did you create this work? If yes, please tell me when. If no, please keep silent. Yours sincerely, the Sockenschütze (talk) 14:14, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for your answer. Your pencil drawing is a great artwork. Thank you for donating it. I would like to know in which year the photograph was taken. I suppose it is 1935 because of the pulitzer prize. Can anybody confirm this? --Sockenschütze (talk) 22:24, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
- Don't know when it was taken or who the photographer was. I've seen photos taken with Joseph Auslander whom she married the year before she won the Pulitzer and she looks considerably older. --Jburlinson (talk) 01:14, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
