Warning

[edit]

Hi Ivanvector. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request: omitting the year, month, and day. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar provided by the AjaxQuickDelete gadget per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. Warning: such edits are not tolerated and have led to account blocks, as "We cannot work here with people who are not willing to follow our procedures, in particular for deletion requests."   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 21:03, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeff G.: Thanks for the assist and the warning. I've been doing deletion nominations manually on enwiki for fifteen years but I seem to have gone that whole time without making a non-speedy request here, and I got lost in the instructions. On enwiki, linking the subpage in the template substitutes for supplying the date (doing both breaks things); my mistake, of course, but things seemed okay in preview. If I made any other mistakes please let me know, I don't anticipate being here often but I have pretty much made a career out of "doing things for no really good reason except that that's what the rules say so do it anyway". Auditors love me, I'm sure. Ivanvector (talk) 21:19, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: one more thing, and sorry for the ping-spam. I'm a checkuser on enwiki and I'm over here cleaning up from a sockpuppet investigation there. I originally was going to nominate File:HGTV Canada logo.png, which I think I did correctly although there's a message at the top of the nomination page which is making me think something else is wrong. Anyway, I discovered afterwards that the uploader has multiple accounts here, and also uploaded File:HGTV Canada logo.svg with an account that didn't unify to enwiki so I didn't see it. I tried to nominate that for deletion by adding it to the existing nomination page, but I see now from looking back through the instructions that I should have done that as a multi-nomination, so now I think it's malformed. If I was on enwiki I would just move the nomination page to a more appropriate title (e.g. Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Corus Entertainment Inc) and update the two description pages to point to the proper page, but I don't want to make more of a mess here. What would you suggest? Ivanvector (talk) 21:41, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
