Personal checklist for uploading W3C-compliant Inkscape SVGs

[edit]

In Inkscape itself:

  • Standardise text in one font and size if possible
  • Select all text and Text > Convert to Text to make sure there's no flowed text
  • Select all text and Path > Object to Path
  • File > Clean up Document
  • Consider unlinking clones. Especially clones of clones might be a problem.
  • Resize the page to content
  • Save as Optimized SVG, with Keep Editor Data unchecked, and Remove Metadata, Remove Comments, Embed raster images checked.

This gives a good start, but the Text-to-path fields still have a field that the W3C checker doesn't like. Open the optimized SVG in Sublime Text and do a regex search for

( aria-label.*\")

Select all and delete.

Now upload the file to the [W3C checker], the [Nu file checker] and the [Commons SVG Checker].

The file should not get any errors, and should look correct in the preview.
