Hello Everyone, I have just removed a few cities, where I believe it is becoming too crowded. Maybe this needs some guideline as to which cities will want to be included? I believe it would need to be at least an Alpha or Beta Global city. As this template goes well into history, possibly also include cities, that have played a major role in history (like Venice or Nuremberg). Size alone shouldn't qualify. Please comment. --109.43.3.61 00:11, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Comments: Copenhagen is a ranked Global City, a major European city, and capital of an area larger than India. It was historically the gate to the Baltics, and reigned over Denmark, Norway, South Sweden, North Germany, Greenland, Scotland, Southern England, Iceland, and colonies in the Caribbean, West Africa, and India. Oslo is a ranked Global City, and centre of the world's 24th largest economy. It is a european capital, annually awarding the Nobel Peace Price. Historical center of the Viking empire, it reigned over Norway, Western Sweden, Ireland, Scotland, Northern England, Iceland and Greenland. These two cities are both larger than, and historically equally important to many cities on this list including Helsinki, Sofia, Nuremberg, Leipzig, etc. Last but not least, both cities have virtually tons of media files at Commons to fill up the categories. Criteria?

[edit]

who decides what's a major city? the current list is so eurocentric. RZuo (talk) 09:37, 13 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think all cities from List of largest cities should be presented here. For Europe I don't understand why in this version Saint Petersburg isn't in template, but less populated Amsterdam, Kyiv, Lisbon and Stockholm still are in template. --Brateevsky {talk} 15:45, 13 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
who cares about russians? RZuo (talk) 09:27, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
RZuo: Please don't use politics. Russia is non-Western world, anyway, it's in Asia on 3/4. If you remove Saint Petersburg, please remove Amsterdam, Kyiv, Lisbon and Stockholm respectively. Due to "eurocentric" argument. Brateevsky {talk} 10:16, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
it is removed according to your reasoning, that it is only ranked 74th in the list you quoted.
it will continue to be removed as long as you only add it and dont follow your own reasoning to add other larger cities, many of which are not in europe but in asia too. because by your reasoning it is somehow related to asia, then other asian cities should come first.
