Common name Chinese Salacia; Vine, Lolly; Lolly Vine; Lolly Berry; Salacia, Chinese[1] Salacia prenoides or S. chinensis belonging to the family Hippocrateaceae is a climbing shrub known as saptarangi in Ayurveda. The roots of this plant is repoted to possess various medicinal uses. Salacia sps is an important source of chemicals of immense medicinal and pharmaceutical importance such as salacinol, mangiferin and kotanalol which are effective as antidiabetic, antiobese, hepatoprotective, hypolipidemic and antioxidant agent
