Reduced number of states

[edit]

This is the svg version of a couple png maps which duplicate each other. However, I removed quite a few polities. Just because a polity passes CUs or SSM, that doesn't mean adoption. In Mexico, for example, CUs can mean losing you right to adopt, because adoption is only allowed for single people and married couples, and CU couples are neither. So I've removed all Mexico but the DF, Arkansas, Florida, Minnesota, Greenland, Philippines, Cambodia, Guam, Austria, territories of the UK (though I did confirm Gibraltar), Switzerland. BTW, the ILGA is not a RS. They miss really obvious things all the time, and cannot be relied on. Kwamikagami (talk) 06:10, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also rem. Portugal as bill not yet signed. Kwamikagami (talk) 07:41, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Darker purple for individual adoptions?

[edit]

Would it be OK to have a slightly purpler purple for individual adoptions? Right now, it looks kind of like the background gray in some situations (such as on my laptop screen in Linux/Firefox). Quintucket (talk) 02:54, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. You can try it, or just give me the #ffffff-style code for the color that works for you and I will. (Might want to drop a note on my talk page here or at WP-en so I see it.) Kwamikagami (talk) 07:41, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(Two reasons it's light, though: It's not really the point of the map, and it's probably very incomplete, given a lack of coverage for most countries.) Kwamikagami (talk) 02:09, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Utah

[edit]

Same-sex adoption is now legal in Utah. http://le.utah.gov/~code/TITLE78B/htm/78B06_011700.htm http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/judge-strikes-down-utahs-same-sex-marriage-ban/2013/12/20/f032442e-69bc-11e3-997b-9213b17dac97_story.html

Sorry, you need a source that says same-sex adoption is now legal in Utah. Kwamikagami (talk) 09:50, 25 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Canada?

[edit]

Are we sure that each "state" of Canada authorize the same-sex adoption? I read somewhere and sometimes that it was not possible everywhere in the country... Titanicophile (talk) 09:55, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stepchild adoption allowed in Switzerland

[edit]

--178.11.184.115 19:16, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Der Bundesrat hat heute entsprechende Vorschläge in die Vernehmlassung geschickt". Does that mean it's just being sent for consultations? Because a line earlier they said it "will" be possible. Kwamikagami (talk) 00:15, 21 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stepchild adoption allowed in Colombia.

OR additions

[edit]

We may *presume* that a US state that has legalized SSM also allows SS adoption, but it's OR to add such states to the map with no other evidence. Portugal allows SSM but not SS adoption; other countries (and US states) do the opposite. You don't automatically get to adopt just because you're married. Kwamikagami (talk) 21:58, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Europe and America are both rather different when it comes to the rights of marriage. In my state of Pennsylvania, the very same thing happened when same-sex marriage was legalized here.

[edit]

Please could we use colours like these: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Same_sex_adoption_by_country.png

This map is full of mistakes... Titanicophile (talk) 14:11, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Update

[edit]

Hi :) Both Andorra and Luxembourg (from 1st January 2015) allow joint adoption. Some French colonies are in gray, when they should be joint adoption-color. French Polynesia, French Antarctic Territories and two colonies in the Carribean - Saint Martin and Saint Berthelemy.

Update: Austria

[edit]

After a court decision of highest Austrian court in January 2015 Austria allowed joint adoption.

Victoria (Australia)

[edit]

Second-parent adoption is not legal in Victoria: [12] [13] [14] HumRC (talk) 20:15, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Since today, 20th November 2015, joint adoption by same-sex couples is legal in Portugal: ABC News - ‘Portugal Allows Same-Sex Adoption, Artificial Insemination’; Yahoo! News - ‘Portugal Allows Same-Sex Adoption, Artificial Insemination’; Pink News - Portugal just equalised its adoption laws for gay couples. Also, since 2013, adoption by a stepparent in a same-sex couple was already possible: Portuguese American Journal - ‘LGBT: Portuguese parliament approves right to adoption – Portugal’; Reuters - ‘Gay couples in Portugal win limited adoption rights’. Would someone please update the map? --Jotagueerrepe (talk) 20:12, 20 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

In Second and Final voting on 18 December 2016 joint adoption by same-sex couples is legal in Portgual.

Wrong Deleting of Austria

[edit]

After a court decision of highest Austrian court in January 2015 Austria allowed joint adoption. Since January 1, 2016 same-sex adoption became effect.

User:AHC300 deleted Austria in map and that isn't correct. --178.11.0.253 23:41, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. HumRC (talk) 17:29, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Section Needed?

[edit]

The European Parliament adopted a report supporting *recognition* of adoption EU-wide. Is this binding? If so, will we need to create a new color for this map?[1] PingingUser:Ron 1987. TenorTwelve (talk) 02:21, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Germany

[edit]

On 30 June 2017, Germany allowed same-sex marriages by parliament. Also Same-sex adoptions become allowed in Germany.

So Germany should be coloured in map. --88.71.51.39 18:28, 30 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The law will not come into effect for another 3 months. Until then the situation remains the same. "In Kraft tritt das Gesetz drei Monate nach der Verkündigung, da den Standesämtern Zeit für die Umstellung gegeben werden soll." Cyprus

[edit]

I believe it is legal in Cyprus as per the civil unions law, passed in 2015, which gives same sex civil partnerships the same rights as married couples. The source https://www.equaldex.com/region/cyprus says adoption is legal. I think the file should be changed.

Now says it's illegal. Our only source on WP says adoption is an exception to the rights. Kwamikagami (talk) 22:41, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

June 2021: Liechtenstein
