Subject of the portrait

[edit]

The description is obviously taken from the Christies web page http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?intObjectID=5411065:

"Walter William Ouless, R.A. (St. Helier 1848-1933) Portrait of William Henry Mason inscribed and dated 'To H.W. Mason/with kind regards/from/W.W. Ouless 1879' (on the reverse of the canvas before relining)"

The label by Christies also does not explicitly state which William Henry Mason is in mind, but there are few reknown persons around to compete with the American engineer.

However, the Masonite inventor is born 1877, so Ouless must have depicted somebody else (probably a British 'H.W. Mason'). Boberger (talk) 17:40, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
