green line is nonsense

[edit]
  • 2002: 4 GFLOPS Pentium 4
  • 2012: 147 GFLOPS i5-2500k $200
  • 2020: 500 GFLOPS Ryzen 5 3600 $200
  • 2002: 0.6 GFLOPS? Geforce 3
  • 2012: 2 TFLOPS GTX 660 $230
  • 2020: 20 TFLOPS 1x RTX3070 $500

The chart shows consumer hardware to be behind super computers by 30 years, but in reality this has always be closer to less than 20 years for desktop PC CPUs alone. If taking huge leaps caused by graphics cards into account, the line would be jumping even closer. Of course you can also buy total garbage CPUs in some $1000 PCs but this would be extremely misleading to take as reference.

Hi, I took the numbers from here and scaled them to $1000. Let me know if you have a better source. -- Notyetborn (talk) 17:17, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
