Disputed identification

[edit]

There is reason to suggest that this mural does not depict descent from Tuṣita, but rather descent from Trāyastriṃśa (Tāvatiṃsa). The iconography of the Buddha, as opposed to a bodhisattva for example; the presence of devas, lay, and ordained disciples; as well as the motif of a stepped apparatus (usually ladder or staircase); all imply the depiction of a famous episode of the Buddha's career soon after he preached the Dharma to his mother and other deities in Trāyastriṃśa heaven.

I've noticed that this is not an isolated incident claiming that this event is associated with Tuṣita rather than Trāyastriṃśa. I'm curious how this misconception has become common. --Invokingvajras (talk) 21:16, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
