I wonder if any artpiece from Freer Gallery of Art be copyright free? I tried to fill the public domain reason for this painting. While the drawing "Varahi on tiger" itself is a public domain per years passed since creation, when I retrieved the source url, it notes The Arthur M. Sackler Gallery and Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC 20560. All presented material is copyright © Smithsonian Institution, 1999 except where otherwise noted. --Omotecho (talk) 12:55, 13 October 2018 (UTC) Added link to the archived image source. There is no penalty for claiming copyright when you don't have it (unless you file DMCA or something like that). I can take a public domain image and put my copyright notice on it. It means nothing. The question is this: Is this a 2-dimensional work? If it is 2D, then any photo of it would also be public domain since it does not pass the threshold of originality. I cannot make out if it has 3D elements in it, however. ℺ Gone Postal ( ) 07:37, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
